What I learned from the Hot Seat

Yesterday I was put in a "hot seat" of sorts in front of my classmates and was asked hard questions about my idea/business, it went as I thought it would and I learned a lot from it. I now know what exactly I need to look up and research who I want to make my clothes what they will look like I need to look more closely with my competitors and try to brainstorm ideas from there designs take what they have done and learn from it and use what I learned in my ideas and in my designs. The hot seat also gave me a lot to think about sales wise I originally didn't want my logo to be a major part of the clothes to try and be different from my competitors but when talking to people about it they disagree its something to think about. Overall the hot seat was a major learning experience and it gave me a lot of things to think about.

Shoe lotto update after hotseat

After the hotseat Roy and I have been reassured on what we need to adjust and research in order to make this a successful company.

My Buns Are Burnin Cuz of The Hot Seat🔥🔥🔥

This week in class we had the "hot seat" where we were answered questions from other groups about our companies. It was sort of a rapid fire thing where the questions just kept coming. After answering all the questions I could, and getting feedback from other groups, I have made improvements and adjustments to my product, AutoDoggo. Our product has been updated and we have new ideas coming in the future and we are excited to announce them at a later date. Our future plans for our company and product are to spread the company throughout the US and later, the World. #moneyexpandingcompanyexpanding #bunchadogs

HOT SEAT LESSONS CARCHANGE UPDATE!!!!!!

As a result of sitting on the hot seat a couple days ago there are many logistics I need to figure out. One of the most important ideas was to figure out my pricing logistics. This includes how much my company will make on each transaction, will the renter or our company set the price for the cars, and if there should be a fee to list your car on our website or app. These are all significant decisions which will determine whether or not customers are attracted to my company. Other topics I learned about from the hot seat was to find a way to convince my customers it is safe to rent out their car. I plan on achieving this by guaranteeing every renter full coverage on their car if it is stolen or damaged. Lastly, I need to decide where and how the transaction will occur between two people, this is important because customers should feel safe renting from a stranger. Currently, I am working on finishing my website and there has been significant progress since our last update. We hope to get our website up and running asap and listings/purchases soon!!!

Hot seat blog post

The average dinner costs about 13 dollars to make, so Kyle and I will charge 18 in order to turn a profit. If we were to sell just 5 meals a week to make, we would make 25 dollars in profit. Over the course of one month, we could make 100 dollars profit. This was our biggest concern in terms of pricing and MVP.

Comedy Central Roast of DOBot - Aftermath

DOBot has been through the hot seat - and come out the other end better for it!
We've listened and discussed the details of our business and have come across a concern that we will address in the below post.

"Can DOBot really monetize on discord? Is it even allowed?"
Answer: Yes, it can! It has been done before but not in the same format on DiscordApp. AKA: Bots with premium services you have to pay for, etc. The terms of service also lack constraints in this regard.

As for progress, we will now begin concept design and formatting of the website's administration panels / config panels as well as the bot's design/formatting.

Stay tuned for more!

DOBot is coming!!!

DOBot, the latest source of online revenue, will be hitting Discord with full wind in its sails sometime this year!
We will be advertising ourselves through mainly word of mouth, but when we use online advertisement it would somewhat look like this:

"This server is proud to support DOBot, the latest and greatest source of online revenue! Make money doing the things you love with DOBot, a customizable discord program that allows you to monetize your discord servers and communities, turning what was once a hobby into a job!"

Occasionally, we will do "online door-to-door selling", in which we approach server owners individually. That would go something like:

"You've got something great going here. Wouldn't you love to make money off of it? We present DOBot, the latest and greatest source of online revenue! Make money doing the things you love with DOBot, a customizable discord program that allows you to monetize your discord servers and communities, turning what was once a hobby into a job! *Insert details (unfinalized) regarding product revenue sources for server owners*"

MESSAGE TO ALL INVESTORS

MY MESSAGE TO ALL INVESTORS:

In everybody’s lifespan there will come a time when they are just in need of a quality source of money or dope clothes. Flashback to 2008, when co-founder of ThredUp James Reinhart opened his closet and couldn’t find anything to wear. It was this moment in Cambridge, MA that the initial idea for ThredUP was born. ThredUp is now one of the largest second-hand
world’s largest online marketplace to buy and sell women’s and kids’ secondhand clothes.

In this moment I go in my closet, look at my shoes, and lose myself in the reality that I can’t decide which sneaker, clothes, or accessory I should rock that day. I contemplate selling my stuff to make a quick buck, but I don’t know a site that meets all my seller needs, such as seller individuality, a specified marketplace, and minimal fees. I also thought of buying some new exclusive products but, all the websites I visited did not offer exclusive products, and if they did, the products were not real.

I decided that the best solution to my problem, as a buyer and seller of exclusive products was to create Young Future, a company that connects buyers and sellers of limited and highly fashionable gear.

Young Future is looking for investors, we have a promising future and an unique value proposition. Would you like to invest in my dream?

Model tweet (Paleo express)

"Do you feel like you could do more with your body and mind? Stop playing around with your health, and treat your body right. Paleo express is a new and innovative take on meal delivery service. Started by Kyle and myself, we have multiple meal options to choose from. Eat like a hunter gatherer!"

Auto Doggo Relevance Compared to Other Companies

Auto Doggo is a company that is just starting up and we are very excited to be on the market soon. As I was scrolling through my Instagram, I found a post from Vineyard Vines from when they had just started. below I will attach the picture. In the picture it is showing the founders if Vineyard Vines, Shep and Ian from when they had just begun when their store was their car, and how they had their tie materials filled to the roof and how they had got their logo inspiration from a piece of wood that hangs above their dog. Very soon my partner and I will be posting a picture from out first sale and it will be so exciting.

Auto Doggo On Social Media

On social media we have blown up within a day. After we posted our first picture on instagram, we gained a lot of celebrity attention. So why have we gotten so much attention lately? We have gotten a bunch of attention lately because we have the latest technology in automatic dog doors, and dog doors as a whole to say the least. So why choose us? We believe that you should choose us because we create high quality products at an affordable price that is reliable, and self sufficient. below, we have attached a photo from the other day that blew up on social media.

GET YOUR RENT ON!!! CARCHANGE IS COMING SOON!

Do you have an extra car laying around at home or are you tired of renting from a car rental company which can be located hours away from your home? Well my website/app "carchange" fixes all of that. Through an easy interface users can list their car on our website/app for a desired period of time or rent a car from people in the area. People who list their car on our service will be able to set a price per day and number of miles the renters can travel in a day. Ultimately, my product will benefit millions of people who simply want to list a car they are not using or rent a car locally.
This post by Mark Kahler details the added costs car rental companies located near airports charge customers. This article will help provide my customers a greater reason to rent from my service since the prices on my webiste/app will be set by everyday users such as you and me not greedy businessmen who are willing to do anything for an extra dollar.

The Paleo Way

Paleo Express is a popular meal box that supplies customers a weekly set of products required to making a healthy and delicious meal! The brand also does a great job marketing with instructions on how to use these items to make meals. Our marketing is used on social media using Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

"The number of “fad” approaches promising you perfect health has been mounting over the decades – stop eating fat, cut cholesterol, take anti-oxidants, pop a multi-vitamin – and both food companies and the media have jumped on all of them. While the popular fad has changed as frequently as fashion styles, there has been a consistent commonality – they all offer over-simplified explanations for chronic disease and how you can get your high school body back. Fueled by a food and supplement industry all too happy to claim, “eat our fat-free product” or “take our supplement and you will be…"

The Paleo Diet

The fact still remains that nomadic tribes of indigenous people were far more nutritionally sound than the European explorers that came over seas to colonize America. Many of them were exceptionally strong, in good health, and lived long and prosperous lives. They didn't eat hamburgers, or pizza, but rather lean cuts of meat, wild game, and copious amounts of fruits and vegetables, and their physiques and overall health reflected just that. So do yourself a favor, and eat like a hunter gatherer.

"That the hunter-gatherer was healthy there is no doubt. Weston Price noted an almost complete absence of tooth decay and dental deformities among native Americans who lived as their ancestors did.5 They had broad faces, straight teeth and fine physiques. This was true of the nomadic tribes living in the far northern territories of British Columbia and the Yukon, as well as the wary inhabitants of the Florida Everglades, who were finally coaxed into allowing him to take photographs. Skeletal remains of the Indians of Vancouver that Price studied were similar, showing a virtual absence of tooth decay, arthritis and any other kind of bone deformity. TB was nonexistent among Indians who ate as their ancestors had done, and the women gave birth with ease."

Business insider update: Revolutionary idea that changes the way society purchases shoes

Roy and I have been hard at work with the next steps in starting our company. We have not only brainstormed ideas for the company name, but we also have an elevator pitch planned for next week. We made a business model canvas and have started to map out a value propositions canvas. We are excited for the future of the company and can not wait for the next steps.

DOBot, the latest innovation in online revenue & ad sharing.

Plans have been put in place for DOBot, a new way for online users to generate revenue doing the things they love - it is also a way for ad providers to better target their online consumers. DOBot, a play on the words Dough and Bot, is going to be an online service that runs through Discordapp, allowing various users to generate various forms of community based payment and ads. It will run through a website configuration that allows administrators to enable a series of monetizing options.

Bringing you up to date on the progress of Young Future

The Progress of Young Future Company

I am Dawane M. Young Jr., the founder, and CEO of Young Future Company. Our company began as a clothing company dedicated to providing people with style. As the founder and CEO of Young Future, I wanted my company to be different from other clothing companies. I also wanted a guaranteed monthly stream of revenue, so I decided to make the company a subscription service, that charges a monthly fee of $5.  Our price is significantly lower than other subscription services such as Five Four Club which is priced at $60 per month. I saw no fruit in a basic clothing company and thought the idea was too prototypical, so I decided to change the model of the company.
Image result for supreme
Image result for louis vuittonWhile analyzing the electronic commerce industry,  I was not able to find a solidified company that trusted or called home. Due to my analyzation, we transitioned into a company that provides a marketplace for consumers, major distributors, and vendors of exclusive, limited edition, and expensive clothing, shoes, and accessories. Because there is no company that is cemented as the mecca for limited, exclusive, and high demand apparel, I saw fruit in becoming one. By changing the model of my company I exponentially decreased my competition. Financially, our company would make a lot more because we would still be a subscription service, but we would also charge non-subscribers a 5% transaction fee. There was a lot of unknown fruit in the simple changes made to the company.

Image result for bapeI saw a problem in the minds of my customers and looked to solve it. As a leader, I asked myself, "What are all the elements that would create a better bond between the company and our subscribers." The answer to my question was trust, our company ensures that the buyer will receive a 100% authentic product, and the seller will have a market to sell to. We do this by receiving everything sold on our website and making sure it is real, and mass promoting our company so we can better connect buyers and sellers interested in the same product. Buyers can find popular brands such as Supreme, Bape, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci being sold on our website. We also analyze the prices of the products our subscribers attempt to sell and provide our subscribers with economical biding and auction prices. We understand that it is always about the customer, so we try our best to find solutions that fit the needs of our consumers. Providing trust and the ability to make money off an investment is what is most important to our company because those factors attract people to any service.

As of now, we are creating a professional website, finding investors, and promoting our company. We plan to officially begin the company within a couple months, but in the long run, we plan to establish our brand in the electronic commerce industry.

My hope for the future

Before I said that after this class I hope to start a business but to do that I'd need to have more people then just me so if I want to make a business that will work I need more knowledge about what I have to do to uphold my business idea. So after this class, I'll use what I learned to make the business startup part of the business but before I launch it and put it out into the real world will need to know the economics of it, I already have some skills in design but they're not enough for a business so I will add to my skill and take a digital arts 2 class. And after all that junior year I will launch a company with either my self or two of my friends who have the same ideas as me and I will have all the skills ill need. but that's big picture right now I will take the victories as I get them over the time of this class I have learned in 2 and a half months more then I've ever known after studying this for 2 years.
I went from making ideas like this to now the bottom photo was what I've written online so far on canvanizer.

Paleo Express... a new take on healthy eating!

Kyle Jung and I have come up with a new and fresh take on healthier eating, and have up with Paleo Express, a paleo meal delivery service which delivers food straight to your door twice a week with up to four meal options to choose from. We decided to have our primary supplier be Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, and will target a mainstream audience in hopes of promoting a healthier lifestyle. Our primary medium of delivery will be shipping through the mail such as UPS and USPS. Granted we are starting out small, but hope to expand our operation in the coming months.

Elevator Pitch

Let Your Dogs Out Without Actually Letting Your Dogs Out

Hello and welcome to our team blog post. Our product is one of a kind and you will not be able to find this anywhere else. What we have made is a dog door that allows your dog to be able to let themselves outside, with you actually being there. What we have come up with is a doggy door that senses when the dog walks within range and automatically opens. Once you add a chip to your dog collar and sync it to your “Auto-Doggo” dog door, it will allow your dog to be able to open the door by themselves when they want to go outside. Our main goal with this product is to allow individuals to be able to not have to be home in order to let their dog’s out. This will prevent “accidents”, encourage training, and allow owners to not have to find a place for their dog to stay during the workday.

A New Way to Exchange Cars? (Progress Update)

Our business, still with no decided name, has progressed greatly since we first started. We have been able to figure out the logistics behind our business and exactly how we should run it to make it  successful. Furthermore, after filling out the business canvas I was able to understand how to acquire, grow, and keep my customers. Planning this section out was the most important as if I do not have enough following my company will die quickly. However, there is still a lot of information we still need to work on. First, we would like to decide on a name for the company so we can begin to start branding. Also, we need to build a professional website or app quickly which is the most expensive and significant aspect of our company. If consumers can not easily navigate through our app or website they will think twice about never using our product again. Therefore from all this, progress has been made, but there is still a lot of information for me to figure out.

New idea! Sweet and Healthy!

For the people that care about having a delicious meal, we created a healthy alternative that can get you health freaks to enjoy a healthy meal. Not only will this make meals enjoyable, but will help your child to eat those vegetables that would be impossible for them to eat. This idea will innovate the food market by having a sweet treat and not having the slightest guilt. This is the idea and this is only the beginning!

High School Student Turned Multi Billionaire in 6 months

Automatic doggy doors. A dog collar with a chip that unlocks an automated doggy door whenever the pup walks within a few feet, and then shuts and locks when the dog walks out. Genius right? Well Tim and Kevin think so. They have found a market that a lot of consumers are in, but right now there is no competition for their product. This doggy door is great for people who work but do not want to put their dogs in a kennel because the dogs can go out and do their business on their own schedule- instead of pooping on your 30k Gucci rug?

We Have An Idea (YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT WE CAME UP WITH)

Today Timmy and I came up with the idea to be able to have an automatic doggie door that opens and closes when you choose without physically being there to let them out. It is a brilliant idea to have in the pet world because you can use it for any house pet that you own. It is also a good idea because there is nothing like it on the market right now that can compete with it, and also that it is time efficient because you will be able to let your dog out from where ever you are.

Introduction - DJ Young

About Me

My name is DJ Young and I am a sophomore at Flint Hill School. When people look at me they see a black male. I want the world to hear my name and know that I am a successful black entrepreneur. I am passionate about creating generational wealth for my family so they won’t have to live under the same circumstances my elders lived through. My greatest strength is my ambition since it forces me to see fruit in fruitless situations. When my meeting with success arrives and my money is too much for me to handle I will simply pay it forward. I will do so by providing economic stability to those who come from worse circumstances as me and those who are less fortunate. I want my name to mean something for generations to come and I am beginning my legacy now.

Small Business Startup...Year FOUR!

Today we kicked off the fourth iteration of our Small Business Startup class with several creativity challenges and some opportunities for discomfort.  Students completed the 30 circle challenge, tried to make phone stands out of Strawbees, and succeeded at the fist bump challenge with MakeyMakeys.  When asked why they completed these seemingly random activities on the first day of this class, students responded in the following ways: (these are just a few examples)

"To prepare and train ourselves to start thinking outside of box and to start to try and think of innovative ways to solve problems." (Carter)

"We completed these three activities on the first day of Small Business Startup class to show our creativity and it was an test that proved our ability to make something out of nothing." (DJ)

"To learn how to creatively make solutions to problems given limited resources. This is vital to business making as most successful businesses are those that fill a niche by solving a problem in a new, and better, way than done before." (Alex)

They did not appear worried that the first day of class had seemingly nothing to do with starting a small business.  I can't wait to see what these students create this semester!

Unit 3 Biz Reflection

Throughout the semester I have learned a lot more about how a business is ran. After Ms. Jackson came in and talked with us I was very surprised to see how many positions go into running a company. There are so many behind the scene jobs that people do not see in company's. I did not know much about Human Resources before this class. I learned that Human Resources hires and fires people as well as make the handbooks and setting guidelines for their company, school or organization. I have not faced too many challenges so far working collaboratively. The only problem I have experienced is someone not getting their portion of the work done on time. This problem is easily corrected after our group talks to that person. There have been many benefits from working collaboratively.

The ups and downs from the management journey

We are a couple weeks into the management class, I was fueled with fear for what this class will be like. Will it be terrible? Will it be great? Time will only tell; but so far I have learned things that will make me become a fortune 500 CEO. I have learned all about finance. How companies like Amazon didn't turn a profit for years. I also learned good marketing strategies and what a company needs to have to maintain health. Coming into the class, I expected to further my business Stumfort, however I am focusing on another company so I can give them my expertise and understand what to look for first before focusing on my company. I am looking forward to sitting down with the people from TM Design/Build LLC firm and point out their weak spots so that they can become a stronger business all together. The most challenging aspect of the class will be taking what I have learned from this class and putting it towards my company Stumfort and remembering it's not the end of the world if we don't make a profit our first year. This will be tough because it could be hard to maintain positivity when we're not making a profit. This class will be great for my future in the Business world by teaching me all about the technical side of business and the structuring. This class will keep my business hopes alive.

Top 5 Tips for Young Entrepreneurs (Stomfort)

  1. Start Small - You should always start small when first beginning a business. Try to find one solid idea and only add bigger and bolder ideas once the business is bigger. Too many ideas at once can be very overwhelming and lead to not getting much done.

  1. Research Everything - This is key. A rising entrepreneur should know about the competing goods or services in the market, the input costs of manufacturing, and the needs of the target market.

  1. Set Regular Objectives- You need to set objectives in order to keep on track. This will establish a momentum for your business to continually grow and never become stagnant.

  1. Choose An Idea That You Are Passionate About - Why would you want to create a good or service that you are interested in? If a person opened a Laundromat when they are more interested in baking cakes, they will not be as successful because they are just not as invested in what they are doing. You need to love what you’re doing, because if you don’t love your good, chances are that no one else really will.

5.) Never Give Up - There are going to be bumps along the way. What if your manufacturer charges more than you can afford in order to make your product? What if you have to slap a patent on your good to prevent others from stealing your idea? You have to believe that it will all be worth it in the end and just keep pushing forward.

Top 5 Mistakes to Avoid When Starting a Business

Top 5 Mistakes to Avoid When Starting a Business
  1. Do not pick an idea you aren't passionate about.
When starting a business, be sure to pick an idea or area that you are passionate about. If you choose something that you are passionate about, rather than focussing too much on the bottom line, the results will follow. When working on your business, you don’t want it to seem like work, and it should always be something that you want to be doing.
  1. Do not be afraid to pivot or fail
Especially in the beginning do not become too attached to your idea or product. A large portion of the time, your idea could fail. Take what you learn from this failure, and use it to pivot, or completely drop the idea and try to come up with a new one.
  1. Do not spend too much money when you start a business.
Always start small. Don’t invest too much money into your new business idea first and try to locally expand and promote your idea without a large amount of investment.
  1. Don't be overrun by the numbers
Always listen to your customers wants, within reason. Especially if you’re starting small, you need to value every customer and focus on them more than the bottom line. If you treat your customer right, the profits will come.
  1. Do not underestimate the amount of time it will take to do things.
Starting a business takes a lot of effort and time and you will not be able to create a business within a day, keep this in mind and do not stop the work until the end. Always overestimate the amount of time it will take to do things.

5 Tips for Starting a Business

Coming to the end of the process, we at EZ-Box realize much more than we did at the beginning of the process. To help out future entrepreneurs, here are 5 tips to starting your own business.

1) Create a business that will improve people's lives
Your business with have to be something that grabs people's attention. So make sure that people will actually want to buy your product or service, not a fad that's designed to break down or only appeal to a very small crowd.

2) Pick a catchy name
People need to remember your name. If people can't remember your name, then the business won't spread or will be completely forgotten, doomed to be confined to your garage or the corner of a decrepit strip mall. Pick a name that resonates with what your business is supplying so avoid names that might sound catchy and fun, but don't actually have anything to do with your business. Klunch might sound nice, but if your business is making pillows, the name doesn't fit.

3) Know your competition
It doesn't have to be a business that sells the same product as you. As long as there is a substitute for your product or service, there is competition. Once you know your competition, it's up to you to figure out ways to make your business better than the alternative. If people would rather choose something else than your product, then figure out a way to make your product more appealing.

4) Get feedback
No business is flawless. You make think that you have all your bases covered but chances are you don't and there are many flaws with your plan. It's hard to see these flaws from the perspective of the person who created the business, so pitch your idea to your friends, or better yet, a stranger and get their feedback.

5) Know your investors
Chances are that you don't have a couple hundred thousand or million dollars just lying around. Neither do I. So you're going to need to find someone who does. Find someone who could potentially be interested in your product, and once you do find out their likes and dislikes. Find out how you need to pitch to them. If your investor is all straight business then telling him a joke might not work, but giving him hard information about your business might. Vice versa, try lightening the mood if you think that your investor might like it. Do your research about them beforehand.
